I was singing the praises of Coraline last night via my Facebook status when I came across the trailer for the new Wes Anderson (The Darjeeling Limited) stop-motion-animation movie, The Fantastic Mr. Fox. It wasn’t by coincidence I happened upon another seemingly stop-motion gem, rather I was reading up on Coraline director Henry Selick, who, it was noted in his Wikipedia biography, worked on The Fantastic Mr. Fox with Anderson, as well as The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.
As for the trailer below, I’m not quite sure what to think. It looks quirky and seems to have that Wes Anderson feel, even though it’s not live action. I think the voice talent – George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Owen Wilson, Michael Gambon, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Willem Dafoe, Anjelica Huston and Brian Cox – will be the real driver of this Roald Dahl tale.

Lady-Friend says this looks dumb, but we’re talking Wes Anderson and a pretty great Kids book. It’ll be interesting and, I daresay my good man, it will be good.
Between this and Spike Jonez’ Wild Things, I hope we’re seeing a trend toward visionary directors tackling classic material with class, as opposed to piles of stinking crap like the Dr. Seuss debacles.
Sorry man but watching this and hearing Clooney’s voice throughout it struck me as..lame.
..And the song in that Wild Things trailer makes me want to cut myself.
