I remember it vividly. The date was November 1998, I was eating lunch and listening to my illegally downloaded copy of (thanks Napster!) Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing.” I had skipped class so I could sit by the computer and watch the new “Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace” trailer download via my free dial-up Internet connection. It took five hours and when the sparkly Lucasfilm logo appeared and “Every saga has a beginning…” scrolled by, I …

“My Sister’s Keeper” hits theaters on June 26th and I’m a little ashamed to admit I completely missed this release while writing my Summer Movie Preview. I’m intrigued to say the least, but also befuddled at the absolute lack of vision on the part of the studio. Really, New Line Cinema – this is a summer release? You’re telling me a drama about a genetically engineered little girl who sues her parents in order to gain control over her body, …
I’m not big on conspiracies, which might have me holding a wet paper bag and blubbering my lips when the bottom falls out, but there’s just a thousand too many going around and my anxiety quotient is already capped. I do, however, notice some things– like when I go to the grocery store and grab a tray of chicken breasts, only to get them home and discover one breast is as big as my head. That might be good for …
Leave it to those crazy Brits to keep churning out hilarious comedies. I hadn’t heard of the film “The Boat that Rocked” until receiving a press alert on Monday, but after seeing the trailer, it looks to be packed with talent and is directed by Richard Curtis, the man who helmed one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies of all-time (“Love Actually”). “The Boat that Rocked” is set in 1966 and tells the story of a fictitious pirate radio station, …
I love movies. Period. But there is nothing I love more than filthy dude comedies. This little gem, “The Hangover,” is from director Todd Phillips and, in my opinion, Mr. Phillips needs of a hearty swathe of redemption since, no lie, everything he’s made since “Old School” has turned out to be utter crap. If you want to argue that point, I humbly suggest you re-watch “School for Scoundrels” and “Starsky & Hutch.”
Five words: Jason Bateman and J.K. Simmons. Comedy gold, folks. Comedy gold. Suddenly I’m excited for Labor Day.
I missed the screening of “Observe and Report” yesterday, so Plan B was mobilized today. And, as you can see by the photo to the left, Plan B includes a screening of Miley Cyrus in “The Hannah Montana Movie.” I don’t know about you, and maybe I’m a big douche because of this, but I’d rather punch myself in my own soft parts and/or watch those mop-headed twins Zack and Cody on the Disney channel before subjecting myself to a …
Every Tuesday I’ll have a trailer up on the blog – it could be something from the past, something currently in theaters or something coming soon, either way it’ll be a nice game of cinematic Russian roulette. Last night, as I sat on the couch with my aching tummy, I watched “Knocked Up” on HBO (even though I have it on DVD) and I realized, as I always do when I see something Judd Apatow has written and directed, that …
