How can anyone not absolutely not love Paul Rudd? Has he ever made a bad movie? Other than Dinner for Schmucks, probably not. He was fantastic in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy, The 40 Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, I Love You, Man, and I even enjoyed him in The Oh in Ohio. And let’s not even get started on his cameos. Bottom line: Paul Rudd is gold and is only going to get better. His next movie is Our …

“Found footage” movies are all the rage in Hollywood. You can go back as far as The Blair Witch Project, but most recently we’ve seen Cloverfield, Quarantine, Paranormal Activity and Paranormal Activity 2, as well as The Last Exorcism and the upcoming Apollo 18. I love movies like this, so it’s no surprise to me our friends in Norway have become fond of the genre, so much that writer/director André Øvredal has passed up zombies, vampires, poltergeists and aliens for something …
Mickey Rourke and Megan Fox have more in common than unnatural puffy lips and tons o’ tats, the two actors are starring together in a new movie called Passion Play, which will open in limited release in New York and Los Angeles on May 6, 2011. The movie, also starring Bill Murray, debuted at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival to mainly negative reviews, with comments like “car wreck” and “awful” being the most prevalent. Even Mickey Rourke admits as much, …
Movies like Crazy Stupid Love, due in theaters on July 29, 2011, make me nervous, especially when I take a liking for the trailer. 99 percent of the time they simply cannot replicate the two and a half minute euphoria they achieved in the trailer, but, as I with Warrior, I’m giving this movie the benefit of the doubt based solely on the cast. Steve Carell (Dinner for Schmucks), Ryan Gosling (Blue Valentine), Julianne Moore (The Kids Are Alright), Emma …
I never saw the 1982 Arnold Schwarzenegger version of Conan the Barbarian. My parents thought the R-rated sword and sorcery flick was a little too violent and a little too boobtastic for my eight year-old eyes. I did, however, see Conan the Destroyer in 1984, but that was PG and had been re-cut by director Richard Fleischer so it could secure the more kid and teen friendly rating. Too bad all those young people can’t exorcise the image of Grace …
I don’t know about you, but I can’t remember the last time Robert Redford actually made a decent movie. Lions for Lambs was blah and The Legend of Bagger Vance was decent enough to wander into thumbs up territory. I’d have to say The Horse Whisperer and Quiz Show were the last movies to showcase Redford’s directorial talent. With his new movie, The Conspirator, due to hit cinemas on April 15, 2011, I’m not sure what we’ll be getting. The …
If there was ever a great example of a teaser trailer, this short preview for Soul Surfer fits the bill perfectly. Clocking in speechless at a little over a minute, about all we know is AnnaSophia Robb (Race to Witch Mountain) has grown up, Dennis Quaid (Pandorum) and Helen Hunt (Then She Found Me) are looking super old and country singer Carrie Underwood is smokin’ hot. But in all seriousness, I kind of like the brevity, tone and feel of …
And you thought AndyatTheMovies.com had died a wintery, frozen death! I think not! I’m back from the holidays and I’m ready to bless your buns with the first Trailer Tuesday of 2011. Just think, only 92 more Trailer Tuesdays until Jesus returns and the world gets engulfed by the sun! Two months ago, amidst the Naked Harry Potter Scandal, I posted a trailer for Battle: Los Angeles with a hearty pronouncement the sci-fi action movie, due in theaters on March …
Listen, I thought Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End was an overstuffed mess of a film and I might be one of a select few who actually enjoys the second movie, Dead Man’s Chest, more than it’s predecessor, The Curse of the Black Pearl. Frankly, who would have thought a theme park ride, albeit one of my favorites, could spawn three fairly decent movies? Not me. As a side note, I also think Johnny Depp, like his pal Tim Burton, …
Happy Thursday, AATM readers! I hope you enjoy this installment of, ah, Trailer Tuesday. I’ve been behind on posting goodies because it’s awards season and I’m up to my ears in screener DVDs sent from hopeful studios. The Utah Film Critics Association votes in a few weeks on the best of 2010, so I’ll make sure to share our chosen winners, as well as my ballot and who I picked. Hard to believe another year is almost in the rear …
