Am I the only person in America who doesn’t see the appeal of Amanda Seyfried? I didn’t see Mamma Mia! (thank the LORD), so maybe I’m missing some perspective that is vital in my critique, but I have seen Jennifer’s Body and I wasn’t that impressed. Either way, I’m getting ahead of myself. Who is not as important as what in the case of the upcoming horror movie Red Riding Hood, helmed by Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke. Honestly, upon seeing this trailer at the press screening for Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part I, I had two thoughts: First, and simple, was a prompt and succinct WTF!, and second was Red Riding Hood feels very, um, Twilighty. I’m not turned on by this preview, but I’m sure the target audience (those breathlessly waiting for Breaking Dawn and who think Stephanie Meyer invented werewolves) will think this movie is the bee’s knees.
Red Riding Hood stars the aforementioned Seyfried as the title character, as well as Gary Oldman (The Book of Eli), Virginia Madsen (The Haunting in Connecticut), Billy Burke (Twilight) and Shiloh Fernandez (The United States of Tara). Further proof this movie is bait for Twilight lovers? Shiloh Fernandez was one of the finalists for the Edward Cullen role in Hardwicke’s Twilight.
Check out the trailer after the jump and let me know your thoughts!
