By ANDY MORGAN I finally saw Let the Right One In, the Swedish coming-of-age vampire tale, in March of 2009 after the thundering positive buzz had begun to fade, and maybe that’s why I didn’t fall in love with the movie as many before me had. There were elements of the movie I appreciated – the attention to small details, the icy, intense acting and the overall look and feel of the film, but in the final analysis there was …

By ANDY MORGAN There are very few movies I completely and utterly abhor. Generally, I can usually find something positive or likeable in a film, even if said cinema is receiving disgust and scorn en masse from most fall-in-line movie critics. I relish the truth that I don’t always see eye-to-eye with most critics and can find some thread of hope in Hollywood’s efforts. Such is not the case with M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender. I literally hated every …
By ANDY MORGAN Making fun of Twilight fans and bemoaning Stephanie Meyer’s novels and the subsequent movies is almost as easy as drumming up sarcastic jabs about Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton or Miley Cyrus. There’s no effort required. It’s easy. And it’s also out of control. It’s almost as popular to dump on the vampire-werewolf franchise as it is all the rage to scoop up Team Jacob or Team Edward paraphernalia at Hot Topic. Every time I see a teen …
By ANDY MORGAN I saw Paranormal Activity three times during its run in theaters last October and it scared the bejeezus out of me every time. Something about an invisible demon dragging a screaming chick down the hallway in her pajamas makes me pee a little in my pants every time. Apparently boatloads of Americans felt the same, because the movie made for $15,000 grossed over $107 million at the box office. I thought the concept was clever and well-executed …
By DAN VINTON If there’s one thing The Last Airbender does well, it proves any mystique surrounding M. Night Shaymalan is gone. With this coffin-bound nail, all residual goodwill The Sixth Sense director retained from followup successes like Unbreakable, Signs and even the creepy but fatally flawed The Village has been throttled by his is own hands. Shaymalan’s latest, (based on the 2005-2008 Nickelodeon cartoon series I’ve never seen), builds a likable, tactile, genuinely fascinating and lushly art-directed world of …
When Little Fockers, the third film in the Meet the Parents series, hits theaters on December 22, 2010, six years will have passed since we last saw Gaylord “Greg” Focker (Ben Stiller) and his arch nemesis/father-in-law, Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro), go toe-to-toe on the big screen. Little Fockers is the next logical step in the Focker trilogy and, as the title suggests, the story revolves around Greg and Pam (Teri Polo) trying to raise their five year-old twins. All …
Predators was a movie I was looking forward to watching this July, but somewhere between the vagina-mouthed baddies releasing a heard of the oily dogs from Avatar – this time juiced with rabies and clam cave maws – and the whole The Most Dangerous Game: Alien Style story foundation has my enthusiasm meter scraping rock bottom. Will I see it? You bet your juicy booty I will. This could be good, so I’ll give it a shot, but considering Robert …
There’s a new poster out for Piranha 3D and the sheer silliness of the artwork makes me giddy for August 20th, and, ironically, the 3D format. Batshit crazy fish with razor sharp teeth jumping off the screen and in my face is what 3D was made for and belays the gimmicky foundation of the technology. I’m excited for this movie and I think the movie should be a nice capstone to the so-so summer of 2010. Check out the full-sized …
This post has less to do with some actress whose last name is another word for farting and more about the remake of Fright Night, a beloved movie of my 1980s teenagehood. In case you missed it, DreamWorks is overseeing the Fright Night remake (due in theaters October 2011) and has already cast Colin Farrell (Crazy Heart), Anton Yelchin (Star Trek), Toni Collette (The United States of Tara), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Kick Ass) David Tennant (Doctor Who) and, of course, Imogen …
I know absolutely zip about The Green Hornet and what I do know comes from our good friends at Wikipedia. From what I gather The Green Hornet, aka Britt Reid, has been around since the 1930s and originally debuted as a radio program. Basically before there was Batman (1939), there was The Green Hornet (1936), but instead of being a billionaire playboy like Bruce Wayne, Britt Reid is a newspaper publisher by day and a vigilante ass kicker at night, …
