Anchorman 2 May Yet Wear the Smell of Destiny

Enduring comedy classics are hard to come by- there’s a lot of attempts, but even more fail. Anchorman is not one of those unfortunate few. Solid in it’s outlandish ridiculousness and eternal in its sublime quotability, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is a gentle gift of wonder and delight. There’s been rumor (isn’t there always?) of Anchorman 2 for some time, but apparently, in a recent press junket for Land of the Sleestacks Lost, Will Ferrell made mention of

Dear Shatner: Don’t Go Away Mad, Just go Away

One of the fun internet “news” stories that keeps coming up in the wake of Star Trek‘s new success is William “No, I’M Kirk!!” Shatner’s heartache at not having been cast in the reboot and his unbecoming (and overblown?) desire for insertion into future installments. I love being Shat on as much as the next guy– his self-referential Priceline Negotiator ads are humorous enough and as a personality he’s a barrel of monkeys–, but as bad as he wants to

Daredevil Reboot Gets Further Rumor-ized

If you happened to watch the 4 season run of the critically acclaimed Battlestar Galactica over the last five and a half years, you’ll know Katee Sackhoff played Starbuck, the pissy, angry, almost utterly unlikeable tomboy who, in the end, may have been an angel after all, so her sucking all 4 four episodes can be excused. Or something. To Sackhoff’s credit, she played the character with as much sincerity and gusto as could be mustered, but she’s yet been

Twilight New Moon Images from EW

I was perusing the web this morning and came across these “Twilight: New Moon” images at Entertainment Weekly’s website. I’ll be frank, I have no idea what is even happening in these photos, but my guess is Bella is pouting in both and these rugged, over-stylized vampires are giving her tender, yet firm guidance. And of course the one with Edward Sparklepants is definitely ending in a cold, pasty kiss. These do nothing for me, but if you’re a “Twilight”

Ha! Ha! Screw you Fandango!

The Fandango Five tried to make me look like a cotton-headed-ninny-muggins on Friday with the irrelevant tidbit that “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” was number four in online ticket sales leading into the weekend, hence giving the impression it wouldn’t come close to touching “Terminator Salvation” for the top spot, and maybe would even be trumped by “Star Trek” or “Angels & Demons.” But, see, here’s the thing:  I am never wrong! So, with great humility I

Inglourious Basterds Getting Mixed Reviews

Eeek! So much for everyone fawning over Quentin Tarantino’s supposed greatest screenplay ever, i.e.  the oft-reported on “Inglourious Basterds.” Word out of the Cannes Film Festival is mixed and RottenTomatoes.com has the movie at 57% on the Tomatoemeter, with 14 reviews posted (eight fresh, six rotten). And don’t think those snooty French filmgoers and their love of aberrant sex and all things boring have this film painted into a corner. No, sir, our beloved American critics are pooping on this

Early Buzz on Tarantino’s Basterds

Quentin Tarantino and the cast of “Inglorious Basterds” are at the Cannes Film Festival and early buzz from Roger Ebert and CNN seems to be good, especially if you’re someone who isn’t keen on brutal violence pasted on the silver screen just for kicks. It seems this Tarantino film has more talking than gore, of course this is also a war movie and sometimes war violence is treated with kid gloves because, well, it’s war. And war is hell. And

Twilight New Moon Clip to Air on MTV

Andy Samburg is about the only reason in the world I’ll be DVRing the MTV Movie Awards (no way in hell am I watching them live; there is great power in the fast forward button) set to air live on May 31, 2009 at 9PM EST, but if you’re a “Twilight” fan you’ll get your fix when Edward, Bella and Jacob, aka Robert Pattison, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, present an exclusive clip from the forthcoming “New Moon” during the

More Trek Thoughts & Links for the Weekend

Word from online ticket seller Fandango is 91 percent of online ticket sales are for “Star Trek” and 91 percent also consider themselves Trek fans. 64 percent of those surveyed also said they aren’t upset William Shatner is not in the movie. And to that I say: the bloated and old Priceline Negotiator has no place in this movie. Anyone thinking otherwise has probably never seen a movie in their life or is addicted to prescription painkillers. At any rate,

Obligatory MTV Movie Awards Post

Yawn. So MTV just announced the nominees for its largely pathetic annual movie marketing awards show. No big surprise here – “Twilight” racked up seven nominations, including Best Actress Who Really is a Huge Pothead and Shiny Skin My Butt Award (also known as the OMG! You Pasty Bastard! Award). I kid, of course, but really, that’s about how credible MTV’s golden popcorn trophies are in the realm of cinema. The only thing remotely good about the MTV Movie Awards
