District 9: Believe My Hype! (?)

District 9 has been getting pimp treatment from yours truly since the dawn of AATM. I’ve always been a believer in the defunct Halo project’s hired then fired director Neill Blomkampk’s skill as storyteller/director since seeing his demo reels and the genesis short film to District 9, Alive in Joberg (see below). In fact, District 9 is probably my most anticipated film of the summer and its release, August 14, is quickly approaching.  With Comic-Con in full swing, District 9

Readjust Your GI Joe Expectations?

With July well into its second half and August quickly approaching, it may be time to readjust the ultra-low expectations G.I. Joe’s trailers have been setting for the last few months. In fact, recent feedback from early screenings has been warm and cheery. That may not be saying much as of yet, but Ain’t It Cool News, Collider and Latino Review all have reader reviews who’ve seen the final product… and all are surprisingly positive. To be honest, I’m encouraged

First-Look at Edgy Teen Drama “Beastly”

I use the word “edgy” in the title of this post because “ridonkulous” wouldn’t quite fit. I thought this “Beastly” was a Sci-Fi channel or made-for-television movie when I first saw it advertised, but now I realize it’s something planned for a July 30th, 2010 release to the big screen. The studio is calling it a retelling of the classic “Beauty and the Beast” tale; I call it latching on to the “Twilight” teat and hoping to ride the wave

Help! I’ve Fallen and I Can’t Get Up!

Hoooo boy! It would seem the Transformers sequel, what seemed to be a surefire summer blockbuster, is now headed full steam ahead for ignominy and a Golden Raspberry award. As of this writing and today’s release, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” stands at 22% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.com. And the reviews are brutal. Here’s a sample of what some notable critics are saying about Michael Bay’s Autobots vs. Decepticons movie. A great grinding garbage disposal of a movie, “Transformers: Revenge

Letters From Transformers-Jiwa

I’m usually loathe to hype anything TMZ puts out, but this item (a letter of concern from Michael Bay to Paramount Studio heads) was an interesting insight into the film-making process and the egos, concerns and collaboration that go into every production. Films are, after all, viewed by studios and distributors as a product being manufactured with the intent to make a profit, with “art” a secondary concern. At the beginning of May, the always passionate Michael Bay sent a

More Robin, More Russell, More 4 x 4 ACTION

So you know there’s a new-fangled Robin Hood coming up and you know with names like Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe, there’s going to be some sneaky-sneaky and unofficial photos smuggled from either the set or the bushes adjacent to, but not on, the set. AICN has  posted said pics up for your viewing pleasure. The coolest ones can be found there, but I had no idea Robin and his Heterosexually Merry Men beat Sherwood Forest into submission via a

The Movie Show Expanded to One Hour

As much as we love writing on AATM, we also like opening our big, opinionated traps on the radio. If you didn’t know, Andy and I  appear every Friday on KVNU with Tyler Riggs and Marc Neilson (and Whitney the Movie Show intern!). We’re kinda stoked to announce the show has been expanded to one full hour and has gained a new sponsor: Bajio Mexican Grill. Which, incidentally, is delicious. You might think I’m hyping Bajio because they’re now sponsoring

Extended MTV Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Clip

Another extended promo from The MTV Movie Awards, this one from Michael Bay’s “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.” Surprisingly, Bay himself and the goddess Megan Fox introduced the clip. Shia “No No No Wait Wait Wait” Lebouf was in his seat pondering the skinniness of his tie and the tightness of his pants while the clip went down. If you missed it, you can see the clip before. As for me, while I am excited to get my Autobot and

The Twilight Saga: New Moon MTV Teaser

The MTV Movie Awards were tonight and you didn’t miss anything. Between a few funny bits from Andy Samberg, Bruno (Sacha Baron Cohen) putting his butt crack in Eminem’s face and Megan Fox and Ana Faris serving as visual Viagra, you might have caught this extended clip from “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.” If you didn’t, you can see it below. My take? The CGI werewolf is lame and I’m also wondering with the emotionality of the Bella/Edward love affair is
