Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man franchise died the minute Spider-Man 3 hit theaters. Instead of pushing forward with a fourth Raimi-helmed Spider-Man movie, the studio did the wise thing and went for the re-boot. When Columbia Pictures announced the hiring of (500) Days of Summer director, Marc Webb, my faith in the re-boot was bolstered. When Andrew Garfield was announced as the new Peter Parker/Spider-Man, I started to question my faith. However, after seeing Garfield in both Never Let Me Go and The Social Network, I was utterly convinced he was the perfect choice. Furthermore, the additions of Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Dennis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen and Sally Field let me know that Marc Webb was ready to amaze.
Now this image of Garfield as Spider-Man has hit the web and I am speechless. This looks awesome. I love how there is no nod or homage to Raimi’s films and they have gone with their own unique vision of how Spider-Man should look for this new, sure-fire blockbuster franchise. I simply cannot wait for July 3, 2012. Check out the image below and let me know your thoughts. Excited? Indifferent? Pissed?
