You won’t be able to see the first trailer for Iron Man 2 until Sherlock Holmes is released on December 25, but you can check out this sleek teaser poster, featuring the ever-anticipated War Machine. It’s hard to imagine that Iron Man 2 will suck, and I’ve already added this to my must-see films of 2010. The first movie was a pleasant surprise and I can never get enough Robert Downey Jr. The guy is a top-notch talent and it’s great to see him overcome his drug abuse.
While the storyline to the sequel has been kept under wraps, we do know, based on cast interviews, the story is set six months after the Iron Man ended and conflict between Iron Man and War Machine will be a central theme of the movie. Tony Stark’s slide into alcoholism is apparently another theme explored by director Jon Favreau, but according to interviews with Favreau and Downey Jr., the movie won’t follow the Demon in a Bottle storyline from the comic books.
Again, the movie opens on May 7, 2010 in the United States (April 30, 2010 in the UK) and stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke and Samuel L. Jackson. That’s a beefy cast and should make for a great summer flick.

Iron Man 2 IS the must see film on 2010. Iron Man was fantastic, and with the exception of trading Terrance Howard for Don Cheadle, I think this is going to be phenomenal.
And don’t get me wrong, I agree that Don Cheadle > Terrance Howard, but I dug Terrance in his role and dislike changing roles midstream.

I very much enjoyed the first Iron Man, thought it was the 2nd best comic book film from ’08.
The film has been in post since July, which tells me that from the release of Iron Man and the wrap of shooting back in the summer, that only 14 months elapsed. To mee it seems as if they’re rushing IM2 too fast to get it into theaters to makea killing, which it undeniably will at the BO. I just hope they are able to put out a decent product. I’m not expecting it to be as good as the first, but as long as the finished product is done well, I won’t complain.
Look at that ensemble??!!! Jon Favreau is a good director, imo. Films like Iron Man… that is his turf. He can make a good, enjoyable, movie-going experience. You get your money’s worth when you go see one of his films. The cast, minus ScarJo and to an extent Don Cheadle(agree 100% with you Tyler on that), is extraordinary. Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Platrow and Sam Rockwell(go see “Moon”!!!) among others… it’s hard not to get excited for this one.
This one is up there, but the films I’m most looking forward to in ’10 are: Edge of Darkenss, Shutter Island, A Couple of Dicks, Green Zone and my #1 film I’m anticipating for next year: Christopher Nolan’s Inception
SKG- You’re right; the schedule for Iron Man 2 was extremely short. Marvel’s intent to punch it out in 2010 was a major road block in getting Favreau back at the onset. Luckily they got him, as I’m with you: he’s a good director. Obviously, Elf was commercially successful, but Zathura was an under-appreciated good time. He’s done others, but yeah, he’s commercially and technically solid.

I’m going to be the guy who says I’m happy Don Cheadle is on board in Iron Man 2. Terrance Howard was a flash in the pan in my book. He’s not bad, but Cheadle is a damn fine actor.
I agree Andy but the way they went about f*cking Howard over is exactly what makes Hollywood the giant steaming bowl of asshats it is..from the little ive read the guy was lead on, then dumped like a 2 dollar whore without any notice
The guy seems like a solid dude and does a decent job in the first then gets rimjacked by exec’s and fed some bullshit excuse of a story on why he’s been ousted for doing a fine job on the first.
When i watch Cheadle’s performance in the new film, all im gonna see is someone who was payed alot of cash to step in and screw a good bud over by taking the role in the first place, Cheadle can go on about how he respects Howard and blah blah, but the fact is, he stepped in, took the cash and allowed a studio to f*ck over a(supposed)good friend and colleague.

From my understanding, Cheadle wasn’t paid more money, but was willing to take the role. Sounds like there’s more than Howard’s side of the story.

“Hollywood insiders believe the exit stems from Terrence Howard’s difficult behavior on the set of Iron Man. But those with intimate knowledge of the situation suggest a far more dramatic backstory: Howard was the first actor signed to the film and, on top of that, was the highest-paid. That’s right: more than Gwyneth Paltrow. More than Jeff Bridges. More than Robert Downey Jr. And once the project fully came together, it was too late to renegotiate his deal. It didn’t help that, according to one source, Favreau and his producers were ultimately unhappy with Howard’s performance, and spent a lot of time cutting and reshooting his scenes. (Favreau could not be reached for comment, while Howard’s publicist says: ”Terrence had a tremendous experience working on Iron Man.”)
As such, when Favreau and screenwriter Justin Theroux went to map out the sequel they found themselves minimizing Howard’s story line. Once Marvel learned that Favreau was thinking of curtailing the role, the studio went to the actor’s agents with a new and drastically reduced offer — a number that’s similar to what supporting cast members were paid for the first movie. The agents, according to sources, were so taken aback by this new figure — estimated at somewhere between a 50 and 80 percent pay cut — that they questioned it. Why did they blanch? Multiple sources say that Marvel execs never told Howard’s reps that they had issues with the star’s on-set conduct. (Marvel would not comment for this story.)”
