There are certain movies that should never get a sequel, regardless of how beloved the film is or how well it did at the box office. This declaration can be a tough proposal, because selfishly I want some stories to continue, however convoluted and stretched they might become. On the flip side, I also know that my selfishness can lead to crappy sequels and the pollution and tainting of the original. That’s why my feelings about “The Descent 2” are mixed and rife with conflict.

If you haven’t seen “The Descent” you should put this gem in your Netflix queue right now. It’s probably, without a doubt, one of the most unnerving and frightening films I’ve ever seen. The mix of environment, creatures, psychological fear and gore are fantastic. It’s directed by Neil Marshall who, sadly, has not fared well since “The Descent.” If you’ve seen “Doomsday,” you know of what I speak.

I will see the sequel to “The Descent,” but I’m not too excited at its chances for greatness. Watching the trailer makes me think we’re hopping on a bus to Beentheredonethatville. The great thing about the first movie is it ended smartly. It ended with lots of questions. Questions that didn’t need answers, but questions that allowed the creepiness and dread to seep a little further well after the credits rolled past.
